Jim Culver

Jim Culver is a retired Professional Forester who started his career in 1960 as a District Ranger for the U.S Forest Service and moved on to become Resource Manager and Logging Superintendent for Michigan-California Lumber Company. In the late 1960′s he formed a small firm, preparing natural resource baselines for use in the preparation of regional land use plans. He retired in 1993 as President and Chairman of the Board of the firm LSA Associates Inc. that had grown from three employees to two hundred and fifty-eight. In 1992, he was appointed to the California State Board of Forestry and Fire Protection where the majority of his effort was focused on improving forest practices in the forested watersheds of the California coastal range to protect the badly degraded habitat of coho salmon. In retirement, much of his work has been in watershed management and restoration. Jim first served as a Board Member and Executive Committee Member of the Pacific Rivers Council, and later as a Board Member of Integrated Environmental Restoration Services, a small firm that in partnership with U.C. Davis has been developing innovative erosion control techniques for maintenance of the water quality in the Lake Tahoe Basin. He previously served as a Board Member and President of the HCSEG, and re-joined the HCSEG Board in 2009.
